I came across this news story from the BBC on the newest police invasions of Rio's favelas (where I used to live). It was the same old story: heavily-armed SWAT-style tactics, stray bullets striking innocent bystanders, police claiming that every single person that died was a drug trafficker. The interesting part is that these actions are part of a new initiative by the government to maintain a permanent police presence in the favelas instead of withdrawing after a successful raid. 1 down, 899 to go. Good luck with that guys.

isn't always convenient when every person who dies is a "bad guy"?
